Magazine Cover Design

Grading on CONTRAST, REPETITION, ALIGNMENT, PROXIMITY, 
EMPHASIS, & ORIGINALITY! (The Principles of Graphic Design)
  1. TAKE NOTES ON C.R.A.P.E, See examples graphic design principles in magazine design.
  2. Decide on a concept/theme for the magazine. A new name for a magazine that does not already exist. Then create the masthead. The "masthead" is the name of the magazine (or newspaper) displayed on the top of the top page. 
  3. Design COVER (contains title masthead, tag line, a photo, date, and at least 2 previews of what is inside).
  4. USE YOUR OWN PHOTO!

2 Typography Lyrics Interpretations Posters


  1. Choose lines of song lyrics to 2 songs, around 10 words each.(Or use a quote from a book or poem.)
  2. In Photoshop, open a 12x18", 150 dpi. Fill with a background color. Create 2 posters visually interpreting the lyrics. Put thought into the fonts used, and add a few images, symbols, or icons. DO NOT USE PHOTOS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.
  3. Use BALANCE, CONTRAST (light and dark or warm and cool) and EMPHASIS (one word and symbol stands out the most).
  4. Give credit to the musician/band on the bottom.

Dream Sequence Video, first steps


  1. Watch examples of Dream Sequences.
  2. Work work alone or with 2 other people.
  3. Establish a general story-line, but remember a dream doesn't have to make perfect sense.
  4. Make a list of what you will need to film and a general plan.
  5. Take footage, not necessarily in order. Consider camera angle, and take extra footage before and after you start. You can always cut the clips.

  1. ALTERED/LAYERED SURREALISM  Combine one of your photos with an image you find online. (Use images from pics4learning.org   OR  http://pics.tech4learning.com)
  2. DIGITAL SELF PORTRAIT       Use at least two images of yourself in a layered self portrait. (See more examples here.)
